The broader Adelaide Hills region offers many special events throughout the year. Food and Wine festivities, art exhibitions, fairs, agricultural shows, as well as regular farmers markets are all part of living and visiting the Adelaide Hills.

This list of events is by no means exhaustive. There are many more fantastic events that take place in this region. More information can be found in a number of publications and websites promoted by the South Australian Tourism Commission. Billy 'T' concert - A tribute to Johnny Cash

1st of August 2009

The Business and Tourism group of Macclesfield (B.A.T) is putting on this fantastic show featuring performances by Billy T and Dianna Carroll. The concert features songs by Hank Williams, Dixie Chicks, Patsy Cline, Charlie Pride, Slim Dusty, Dolly Parton and many more. The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets are $ 39 per person. Bring a plate of food or have a meal at the Macclesfield Hotel or Three Brothers Arms. Wine, Beer and soft drinks can be purchased at the venue. Bookings can be made by calling 0417 087 891 or 8388 9669. Enjoy a real country show at the Macclesfield Institute........become one of the locals for a day. The Stumps will offer a special accommodation package for this concert. Strathalbyn Antiques and Hobbies Fair

15th and 16th August 2009

The Strathalbyn Antiques and Hobbies Fair attracts antique dealers and visitors from all around Australia. Held in various venues around the town, visitors can take advantage of the complimentary shuttle bus service to get around. The halls, which will be filled to capacity this year include: Town Hall Uniting Church Hall School Gymnasium Bowling Club Lutheran Church Hall A special feature this year is an auction, which will be held on Saturday in the RSL Hall. Featuring a town crier, live entertainment and displays this event is a must for anyone interested in antiques, crafts and collectables. There will be displays from Basketry SA, Spinners and Weavers, Lacemakers, Quilters, Strathalbyn Museum, Motor Restorers, Strathalbyn Floral Society and many more.

The Bay to Birdwood Classic

The Bay to Birdwood Classic is your chance to get close to motoring history. Meet the car owners, admire stunning vehicles and remember when ... back to an era when cars and music were the lifestyle.The Classic invites entries from vehicles manufactured between 1 January 1956 and 31 December 1977, so this is all about an era which gave rise to the Hills Hoist, the FC Holden, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, James Dean, Marilyn Munroe, Bandstand, Barbie Doll, the space race, rock 'n roll, hippies, the mini, the combi, drive in... This is Australia's greatest motoring show!

The Fleurieu Folk Festival

23rd- 25th October 2009

The Fleurieu Folk Festival is set in the beautiful historic town of Willunga. The festival presents a weekend of music, with concerts, musician’s sessions, dance, bush poets and children’s entertainment. With a huge array of local, national and international performers there is sure to be something for everyone.

There are plenty of craft stalls as well as workshops where you can learn to play a folk instrument or just relax and enjoy some local food while listening to the fabulous music.

Strathalbyn Duck races

15th November 2009

The annual Strathalbyn Duck races is a must see spectacle! Featuring two corporate races with ducks decorated by local businesses as well as model yachts, motorized ducks and culminating in the Great Duck Race whereyou are invited to purchase a duck to race. (all ducks are plastic and no real ducks are harmed during the event!) Numerous food and drink stalls are available, or why not pop into one of Strathalbyn's many cafes or bakeries.

Adelaide Classic Car Rally

18th - 22nd Novmber 2009

The Classic Adelaide is renowned as one of the world's best open-road motoring events, with a field of some 300 cars.

The Classic Adelaide is an annual tarmac rally for classic cars manufactured prior to 1 January 1982. You can see cars representing many classic makes such as Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Jaguar, BMW, Lotus, Alfa Romeo, MG, Bugatti, Austin-Healey and Aston Martin, plus Australian and American favourites, who participate in competitive and non-competitive categories.

From its daily start in front of the Hilton Adelaide in Victoria Square, the four-day rally visits the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Southern Vales, Fleurieu Peninsula, Victor Harbor and McLaren Vale returning to Adelaide each night.

The cars stop for lunch in Macclesfield on November 21st and for morning tea in Strathalbyn on the 22nd. Both of these stops are an ideal chance to get a closer look at the cars and maybe even have a chat with one of the drivers. For more deatails visit the Classic Adelaide Website.

Macclesfield Strawberry Fete

The Macclesfield Strawberry fete is a great day out for the whole family. It features many talls selling crafts, antiques, bric a brac and much more as well as games and a visit from Father Christmas for the kids. There is plenty of live entertainment throughout the day and of course, plenty of starwberries!
