Strathalbyn
Located only 57 km south of Adelaide and surrounded by rolling hills, picturesque valleys, tall gums and wheat fields, the charming historic town of Strathalbyn is recognised as one of South Australia's loveliest country towns.
The centrepiece of the town is the Soldier's Memorial Garden and nearby is St Andrew's Church, a famous and frequently photographed country churches in Australia.
Strathalbyn is a classified Heritage Town and its appeal lies primarily in the way the centre of the town runs along the Angas River and is characterised by a large area of parkland, known as the Soldiers Memorial Gardens, which is ideal for walking and picnics. A feature of the park is the delightful Children’s Bridge which was completed in 1919.
Historic High Street is lined with heritage-listed buildings and is home to many antique, craft and gift shops. High Street of Strathalbyn is home to numerous shops of great interest and history. With a number of antique & craft shops, an amazing lolly shop, various food outlets and a couple of historic hotels. This is a street full of character, charm and history.
The Park is a great place to have a family picnic. Located in the centre of town the park is the home to a number of friendly ducks who reside on the Angus River. All the required facilities are available with shops adjacent to the park.
Historic buildings Strathalbyn has over 30 buildings of historic interest. There are brochures which provide maps and detailed information for the visitor.
Antique Bazaars and shops Strathalbyn is home to numerous shops specialising in antiques and craft. The Strathalbyn Collectors Hobbies & Antiques Fair is held annually in August and draws collectors and exhibitors from all over Australia.
